Halloween/Samhain and why the veil is thin…

In modern times we’ve almost forgotten our ancient traditions of Samhain (Halloween), although the same old ancient traditions of dressing up in guises and visiting friends, family, and neighbours to share rhymes and sing songs in exchange for food is the same. We have seemed to have lost the importance of why we do this. Commercial giants buy us into the web of Halloween when centuries ago this act was performed to please the departed by leaving them offerings of our harvest so we would have a mild, less harsh winter.

During the time of Halloween the dead would appear and inspect the harvest. This was a time where people would also leave loving gifts for their own ancestors with some more nuclear traditions staying within families! Every family has their own traditions.

For the month of September and October the veil between the worlds are not thin because of magical mystical properties, the veil is thin because we are thinking about them as we prepare, or at least as we used to. I suppose even now people see Halloween as a time where the dead revisit earth due to Hollywood movies like ‘Hocus Pocus’ and ‘Halloween’ but the truth is the veil is always thin for those who expect it to be.

If you truly believe your loved ones are present after physical death then so it is. Everything we do is about intention. Think of it like other occasions where you expect your loved ones to always celebrate with you - birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas. It’s the same after they pass, so if you expect the veil to be thin only at Halloween then that’s how it is.

However if you keep that intention of the veil being thin all year round, you’ll keep the bridge of communication open and will not have to wait till this one time of the year. We should get back to and celebrate our ancestors and ask them for help always. Times have changed. Look at how we no longer need to wait till harvest time as now we have an abundance of food all year round.

Happy Harvest Blessings to you all
